A Brexit Message to Our EU and International Friends

To our EU and International friends.

I and many of my friends and colleagues were proud to be part of the EU. The vote to leave the EU is not a reflection on you but a reflection that the referendum took a snapshot of how British people felt towards our own politicians, their personal circumstances right now through a period of austerity and the influence a few politicians had exaggerating often for their own interest that Europe has been the cause, not solution to some of our problems.

Yes, some EU reform has merit to reduce bureaucracy, find solutions for migration and I’d personally prefer no more wind turbines in my neighbourhood, but in a world where we need to stand together more, leaving, in our opinion, makes little sense.

Do keep visiting, do keep trading with us, let’s continue to be great friends. We are still geographically in Europe and there are no plans to tow us away! Our young people strongly voted to remain. A minority of votes tipped the balance. Lots and lots of great people, talent and a very warm welcome can always be found here!

And if that wasn’t enough this week to shock us Iceland knocked England out of the Euro’s! Iceland demonstrated that a country with a population the size of Leicester can, with great teamwork and organization, elevate their performance to unexpected levels. Well done Iceland you did deserve it!
