Becoming an independent director (often referred to as a non-executive director in Europe) is often deemed to be a highly aspirational role by senior executives planning their retirement. Less stress than a full-time corporate role, and a valuable extra source of income it is a way of helping companies with your many years of skills and experience. So what are the elements of the role, how do you excel and what are the keys to finding work in this area? I will be joined by Frank Lewis a serial independent director, executive director and chairman who has a diverse portfolio of independent directorships in the UK and internationally. He has led global teams and studied employee engagement and retention techniques across different cultures. He regularly lectures and presents on the key competitive advantages that business leaders can gain by placing an employee-centric approach at the heart of business strategy as well as being an exceptional company Director. A former Branch Chairman of The Institute of Directors, he currently also works alongside show host Chris Cooper delivering employee engagement change programmes.
