7 Elevating Ideas

Chris Cooper Button

Here are 7 elevating ideas picked up from my activities over the last month.

1. Increase your engagement with people by adding more appropriate stories into your communication. Use stories and avoid jokes as
people are expecting the latter to be funny and they can fall flat! There is less expectation from a story. Jeremy Nicholas.

2. Always prepare well for sales presentations. In my interview with Patricia Fripp CSP CPAE she talks about a business who pitches annually for
a $20m dollar contract and puts in no preparation. Here the professionals are spending several days in preparation. My interview with David Kean back in June 2013 also gives the top tips for big pitches and the content is brilliant as a big pitch preparation study source.

3. Get clear on your vision. Jonathan Wygant last month did and his dream of creating a great Speaker Bureau is a reality and his network is immense.
Just look at the speaker list on his website. Former hairdresser Patricia Fripp became a famous global speaker.

4. SMART goals set you up to be mediocre at best (from seeing one of my favourite speakers David Hyner in action this month). At the age of 28, I dreamed of one day being an author with a top publisher. Realistic (at the time no). I also dreamed of adding value to thousands of people around the world through my work. Age 46 and this week the ‘bound galleys’ (pre-final print full mockups) for my book ‘The Power To Get Things Done (Whether You Feel Like It Or Not) are being printed by Penguin Random House USA. My radio show is accessed in over 50 countries each month. Dreams become reality and the next idea can help!

5. Seek out and develop great relationships with the most connected people in your industry. (Seth Godin – Purple Cow). Applying this strategy this month generated a tremendous mutual opportunity for me and the person I connected with.

6. Practice The Rule of 5 – Do 5 specific things that move you towards your goal everyday. (From Jack Canfield ‘The Success Principles’).

7. Ask people you admire which books have had the most impact on their business and read them. I asked last month’s guest David Long and he sent me a copy of ‘Scientific Advertising’. This is going to change my written communication forever. Thanks very much David. Read, Think, Act!

Best Wishes,

Chris Cooper

I saw Chris Cooper here today, absolutely fantastic. I came away with a book full of notes. The bit that stood out was about who is to blame when it comes to not following your intentions when you are self employed. I just want to see him again.
