How to Become Trigger-Proof with Nima Rahmany

Why do we sometimes react in ways that surprise even ourselves? Why can successful, intelligent people still find themselves caught in unhealthy relationship patterns, conflict or emotional overwhelm?
And is it really possible to become “trigger-proof”?
In this episode of the Business Elevation Show, Chris was joined by relationship coach, speaker and former chiropractor Nima Rahmany.
Following a deeply challenging period in his own life, Nima embarked on a transformational journey to understand why unresolved emotional wounds continue to shape our relationships, our leadership and the way we respond under pressure.
Today, he helps people break free from trauma bonds, regulate their nervous systems and create healthier, more secure relationships.
Drawing on neuroscience, attachment theory, polyvagal theory and his own lived experience, Nima explained why our triggers are not something to suppress or avoid—they are powerful opportunities for growth and healing.
Together, Chris and Nima explored why success in business doesn’t always translate into fulfilment in life, how childhood experiences continue to influence us as adults, and what it takes to become a calming presence for our families, teams and communities.
Listen for an honest, practical and deeply insightful conversation about emotional resilience, leadership, parenting, relationships and how becoming “trigger-proof” can help us create stronger connections and healthier lives.
Here are some insights from the interview you don’t want to miss:
1. Emotional Triggers Stem from Unresolved Wounds
Nima emphasised that triggers in leadership, relationships, or personal achievement often originate from unresolved emotional wounds, many of which trace back to early childhood experiences or intergenerational patterns.
2. The Role of the Nervous System & Polyvagal Theory
Understanding the autonomic nervous system, particularly the vagus nerve and its branches (polyvagal theory), is essential for self-regulation. Awareness of one’s physiological state—fight, flight, freeze, or fawn—allows for conscious intervention to return to safety.
3. Self-Regulation is Foundational to Change
Rather than striving for “triggerless” existence, becoming “trigger-proof” means learning to pause, recognise bodily sensations, and respond thoughtfully, not reactively. This is a skill that must be practiced and embodied, not just understood cognitively.
4. The Cycle of Achievement and Scarcity
Many high performers and entrepreneurs unconsciously chase success, validation, or external approval to fill internal voids or feelings of not being enough. Without addressing underlying wounds, achievement alone rarely leads to lasting fulfillment.
5. Projection and the Human Shadow
Our unacknowledged insecurities and unmet needs are often projected onto others. This can damage personal and professional relationships, as individuals unconsciously blame others rather than acknowledging their role in a dynamic.
6. Authenticity Comes from Integrating the Shadow
True authenticity emerges when individuals do the inner work to process their shame, unmet needs, and limiting stories, rather than seeking constant validation or hiding behind personas.
7. Personal Growth is a Lifelong (and Messy) Journey
Nima stressed that transformation is messy and involves continual reflection and integration. Even those who teach these principles are not immune to old patterns but can gain tools for quicker, more compassionate responses.
8. Support and Community Are Vital
Nobody can do this work in isolation. Openness to seeking help, joining communities, or engaging with resources and coaching is crucial for lasting change.
9. It Ends With You
While emotional wounds often don’t start with us (they are intergenerational), consciously choosing to address and heal them prevents passing them further down the line—to children, teams, or others.
10. Practical Entry Points
Nima offered practical starting points: self-assessment quizzes, shadow work practices, and structured programs to help identify current patterns and move toward emotional regulation and leadership from the heart.
Trigger-proof doesn’t mean triggerless. It means pausing and getting curious first.
